Six months gone and its time to get ready for Alex. Sarah surveys the room, just after Tom Boyle has finished painting and papering it.
A fantastic crib and rocker set was purchased from a nearby family.
We decided that Nana Renfroe' maple dresser would become Alex's dresser and changing table. Havoc the greyhound tries out the floor and proclaims it just right for hounds.
The crib with a handmade blanket from Mrs Savage and a framed picture by Jen Loper which will hang in Alex's bedroom.
Sarah sits down to take stock.
Isn't she pretty?
On the floor is a lighthouse oil lithograph that I like. Sarah has never liked it. Its going up in Alex's room. I told Sarah she could make exclusive art decisions for the second baby's room. She stuck out her tongue at me.
But at least she smiled for the picture.
Young and cute and pregnant.
HAvoc keeps Sarah company as she writes a letter in Alex's new room, previously our library and havoc's place to take it easy.
At Sarah's shower.
Alex will look like a little sea shanty sailor in that sweater.
Still beautiful. Still pregnant.
Leah explains some silliness. Pretty sister, pretty wife.
Sarah receives Alex's blanket from Mrs. Savage.
Eight months pregnant and in a mood to show off the 'goods.'
Ladies, guys really do think fertility is cool.
Sarah and Havoc now have to do their cuddling back to back, as Sarah's front protrudes too much.
Coming down to the last six weeks Sarah is frantically stitching on 'Christmas Flourishes' to get it done before Alex arrives. She hacks on it throughout the day...
Sarah continues to hack on 'Christmas Flourishes' into the night. Gotta get it done...
Last week of August, just a few weeks from due date. We decided to go to Olive Garden and just have a dressed up night for us. Sarah looked so nice I wanted pictures.
A very full term pregnant.
And none of it showing from the neck up; she just looks radiant.
Whammo! And Alex decided to come a week early on October 4th. At 0606 the Doc decides it's time to stop fiddling around and take Alex out. Pass the 'salad spoons'... (Sarah is looking loopey, but remarkable well for a woman who was 9cm dialated by the time we got to the hospital. I think she deserves a medal...and a sitz bath.)
After the bellowing of coming in to the delivery room, Sarah takes a break between contractions. At this point we were half an hour from delivery....
Sarah was wired up like computer nuts' basement. The O2 was to give her a little OOMPH to get Alex out. Not enough Oomph. Alex was removed with forceps which did their own damage. (I mentioned that sitz bath...)
Alexander Matthew Webber, welcome to the world! His nurse, Tomika, checks over his vitals at the doctor starts putting Sarah back together.
No, the bloody is not Alex's. But I still wouldn't want to 'head out' that way. The image noise is from the camera's memory card going bad..could it be a worse time?
A little squashed and swollen from the forceps, Alex managed to make his displeasure at the lights known to every one in the room.
Alex starting to uncoil. Man, its a little room to be cooped up in for 9 months.
Tomika starts getting Alex wrapped up, after having confirmed good APGAR scores.
Alex cracks and eye open...MAN its bright out here. But they did put him in a nice warming pan.
Again, that is NOT Sarah's blood. Alex is going to have puffy features after going through all that.
Now the eyes start to open!
While the rest of him pinked up quickly, the hands took a moment and it isn't hard to see why: He's got fingers long enough to reach an octave on the piano by the time he's three or palm a basketball about the same time.
Alex began to settle once they got him into that warming pan. Of course, it also looks like he's balling up that right fist to give Tomika (his nurse) a sucker punch.
Another one while he gets cleaned off. More amazing finger shots. I'm convinced he has Sarah's mouth, my eyes and my great grandfather's nose. (Sorry, son; I got stuck with that nose too!)
And into the first nappy!
First on the scene: The Webbers rolled out in the middle of the night to come meet their third grandchild, the first by Marshall. They also did many favors like hoofing it back up to our place to get our fancy camera that was left behind in the RUSH to get Sarah to the hospital. Thanks!
Grandmom Webber give Sarah pointers as we hook Alex up to his food supply.
Alex gets down to the business of feeding...and proves to be a natural at it.
Sarah turns out to be a natural, too.
After a first feeding, Alex goes off to get washed up and weighed in. He immediatly fell asleep when bathed. Can you imagine a kid this tall, all balled up in Sarah for that long?
Nice big chest and lungs...and the size of that torso! He's gonna be TALL.
